First person shooters on consoles have gone through several paradigm shifts over the years. The clunky but workable early shooters tried to emulate Doom on the original Playstation. Then Rare's Goldeneye came out and showed the world how console shooting could hang with PC shooting. While Halo would eventually revolutionize consoles again, PC was still where it was at for FPS games. Quake was well known as a PC game, so seeing a console port was surprising. Though the speed and chaos was retained on the Playstation 2, the controls and precision were not. The game is fine for what it is, but archaic by today's standards. Also, there are quite simply better games of Quake out there.
