A student on Discord questioned if the facial recognition database did in fact not include black faces. I downloaded the image set my university posted, and nope. I then picked CalTech, and nope. I then picked Georgia Tech, since Georgia is a state that is about a third black, and 1 out of 50 faces in their dataset (2%) was black. There are many more facial recognition databases out there, I only picked three, so don't consider this to be comprehensive.


This is the kind of questioning I encourage in my students! If something sounds off, question it and ask for evidence!
