A lot of enthusiasts are also running raid in their rigs! It's not bulletproof and sometimes a flaky drive is worse than a failed drive.

Traditional RAID is nearly obsolete! If data integrity is important, an advanced next-generation file system like ZFS or BTRFS with direct access to disk hardware will be key to ensuring data integrity.
In Part 1 of this series, we talk a little about how Raid 5 works, and how Raid 5 can have only one failure and it will still corrupt your data!
