Ramesh Srivastava spent the 00’s enchanting audiences with the catchy indie-pop group Voxtrot, a group Ramesh started after high school and moving to Europe. He brought Voxtrot back home to Texas, making them one of Austin’s most prominent bands of the 2000’s.
Part of what prompted Ramesh’s move to Glasgow was the need to seek community compared to the loneliness of being a queer half-Indian boy in Texas. After Voxtrot announced an indefinite hiatus in 2010, some of those same demons came full circle, creating an identity crisis surrounding his queerness, religion, and culture. His innerwork through that process is encased in his upcoming solo album Search for Freedom & God, a work dealing with everything from existentialism, spirituality, love and heartbreak, and the pursuit of purpose.
Ramesh recently teamed up with award-winning Austin string quartet Invoke for their “Under The Hood” summer concert series at Batch Austin. KUTX captured this collaboration in Studio 1A, featuring both new Voxtrot and solo Ramesh songs.
"Under the Hood" is an exploration of the spaces between genres—where classical meets indie, jazz, folk, and beyond. The series showcases musical collaborations between Invoke and a rotating cast of Austin's most compelling artists.
Zach Matteson of Invoke writes, “Under the Hood has been our way of building up the “indie-classical” (for lack of a better word) community in Austin–finding ways to tap into the rich singer-songwriter tradition from an outside perspective. Since its inception in April 2024, Under the Hood has continued to be a personal font of creativity and a meaningful way to explore all sorts of different facets in Austin’s music scene.”
