*Disclaimer* I am trait level 1000, so I do have the DLC traits active. While this will cause me to do more damage and be more efficient, these are still the most optimal ways to build without the DLC and are still extremely powerful.

Build 1:
Scrapper set
Magnum - hunter's mark
Shotgun - hot shot / repulsor
Butcher's flail
Butcher's fetish
Burden of the gambler / Hunter's band
Stone of balance

The king of CQC combat, scrapper is a great set for those who love to be up close in the action. With an amazing 30% damage buff to ALL damage within 5m and 15% damage reduction at that range, you want to build scrapper for close combat. Due to this, we will roll with two hard hitting shotguns. Shotgun with hot shot or the repulsor will be your go to weapons here. If you choose shotgun, shot swapping between the magnum and shotgun will add DPS in between the pump animation the shotgun does. This trick bypasses that. Hunter's mark will increase our damage overall by increasing our crit chance. Make sure to apply corrosion with butcher's flail against bosses. This will also trigger butcher's fetish which will give us a huge damage boost. Corrosion is the best damage buff in the game and gives a 25% damage buff. Use hunter's band against weakspot enemies and burden of the gambler against non weakspot enemies.

Talisman of animosity
Hunter's Band
Braided thorns / stone of balance

A weakspot scrapper build. Talisman of animosity gives you a sweet 30% damage boost to weakspot hits and an extra 10% on a kill. Pair that with hunter's band for some serious damage. The 2nd ring will depend on the situation. Add heavy encounters, go with the braided thorns. We need to increase our crit chance as much as possible to make sure we land some juicy weakspot crits. Otherwise, just use stone of balance. Use the scythe when things get hectic and you need to melee. The scythe provides the highest DPS of all melee weapons.

Scrapper set
Magnum - Corrosive aura / hunters mark
Shotgun - swarm
Butcher's flail / melee of choice
Butcher's fetish
Burden of the gambler
Gravity stone / band of strength / root circlet / stone of balance

This is a melee/mod hybrid build. Very effective against groups or those boss fights with multiple bosses. Gravity stone provides us an insane damage buff when fighting more than 2 enemies within 10m. It gives us a 20% increase to ALL damage. This means even our mods are getting boosted. Use the other suggested rings if gravity stone won't be used in a practical situation. If you are going to use butcher's flail, then use hunters mark. If using another melee weapon, use corrosive aura.
