So I did a video a LONG time about about how to extract ISO / Bin Cue images from MAME CHD files and a lot of you asked how to use CHDMAN to extract hard drive images. Well I finally needed to use CHDMAN to do just that...so here you go.
WARNING : CHDMAN is not joking around. FOLLOW THIS TUTORIAL STEP BY STEP. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN CAUSE YOU TO WRITE THE CHD FILE TO THE WRONG HARD DRIVE. YOU DON'T WANT THAT...SO YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
Note. In my example I have a space after the \\.\ formatting. I formatted my card with this syntax. Someone pointed out they have seen instructions with no space. The most important thing is having the correct physical drive number selected. CHDMAN won’t complete a command if the syntax for that version is not what it is expecting. It will just spit back an error.
In this video I will restore a Crypt Killer PCB using a SCSI2SD adapter, which allows you to use solid state SD cards to emulate a SCSI hard drive. I will show you how to extract the contents of a CHD file that originated as a hard drive and how to flash that hard drive to another hard drive. (or in this instance an SD card)
Crypt Killer is an awesome game and my goal is to help you repair your own arcade games. We have to keep these boards alive :)
It's a complex process but it will allow you to create new hard drives for any arcade game that has a CHD dump and shipped with a hard drive for the game itself.
Remember...I warned you above! So be careful. Don't attempt this if you aren't 100% sure of what you are doing.
