Super R-Type (SNES) now features SA-1 Chip support through a patch. The game was hacked by Vitor Vilela in order to get rid of all the stutter and slowdown the original version had. An SA-1 chip as found in Cartridges like Super Mario RPG and others can take over when the SNES CPU is too slow for computational heavy tasks. In this case, when too many sprites are on screen. The result is strunning, though it makes the game MUCH harder to beat. This comparison was recorded on an original japanese SNES (Super Famicom) with an Everdrive Cart (FX Pak). However, it is possible to exchange the ROM chip of a SA-1 featured game so that only real hard- and software is used. This needs a modified Super R-Type ROM-Chip, though.
