Retroid Pocket 5 ROCKNIX (Linux CFW) Quick Setup Guide
65In this video, I'm providing a quick set up guide on how to install ROCKNIX (Linux CFW) on my RP5.
ROCKNIX (20241029) quick setup steps:
• Go to the latest ‘release’ of the ROCKNIX GitHub page, scroll down to the ‘installation’ section, download the image/package for the Retroid Pocket Mini (20241029.img.gz – zipped file): https://github.com/ROCKNIX/distribution/releases
• Unzip/extract the downloaded zip file to get the disk image file
• I will be using a single micro-SD card setup (for OS and for games/roms)
• Insert the micro-SD card in your PC, if it’s a brand-new micro-SD card, no need to format it, if it’s a used micro-SD card, you need to format it using ‘SD Card Formatter’
• Flash/copy/write the ROCKNIX image file on the micro-SD card (using Rufus or balenaEtcher)
• You need to make one minor tweak to get screen rotation working correctly, put the SD card in your computer and navigate to sdcardroot/EFI/BOOT/grub.cfg, open grub.cfg with a text editor and for the Retroid Pocket 5 entry change fbcon=rotate:1 to fbcon=rotate:3
• Take the micro-SD card out, insert it back in your device (label facing down)
• To boot up/turn on your device for the 1st time (to extend the file partition): You need to boot into ‘Recovery Mode’, press the [VOL-] and the [POWER] button, the RP5 will get you to a Uboot screen, within the Uboot menu, click the [VOL-] or [VOL+] buttons to go to the last option (in orange color) ‘Boot Mode – Android’, then press the [POWER] button (next to the volume buttons to select), the 1st boot will take some time, then it will boot into ROCKNIX
• Adding games & bios: from the link below (adding games to ROCKNIX), I used option 3 (external USB drive) to transfer/copy roms & bios from my external hard drive to my RP5
• Hotkeys: RetroArch: L3+R3, on-screen menu: home button (bottom left) +X
Adding more themes (in ThemeMaster):
• Go to ThemeMaster (follow the instructions): https://johnirvine1433.github.io/ThemeMaster/
• Download the latest version of ThemeMaster (in the ‘Installation’ section)
• Open the zip file and extract the ‘ThemeMaster.sh’ file and ‘ThemeMaster’ folder
• Place ‘ThemeMaster.sh’ and ‘ThemeMaster’ folder in /storage/roms/ports
• Run ‘ThemeMaster’ from ‘Ports’ menu (on your device)
