Do not look down upon the Defiant Gouge. Having enemies spawn to continue to fuel the chance shrines saves immense time and you don't have to wait for enemies to spawn. I personally really like the Gouge in runs even before stage 4.

Frost Relic/Tesla Coil/Wungus/Symbiotic Scorpion/Death Mark creates one of the stronger running around Huntress builds. Keeping Frost Relic up can be quite difficult without enemies, that's where the synergy with the Gouge comes in. As long as you fail some shrines then the enemies keep coming and then you'll keep the Relic up. A bit odd, but I still like the combination, gouge on it's own is good only to keep your pace fast.
