Rock Exotica Rigging Plates: Gear Vault - A RRG Signet Series Presentation
Rock Exotica introduced the first production rig plate at the International Rescue Symposium way back in the late eighties. It was a big, beautiful gold plate with their name milled directly on it.
Before that, rig plates had been mostly homemade affairs using aluminum or steel that was bandsawn and drilled in someone's garage and pressed into service with unknown strength characteristics.
Rock Exotica's big plate was an instant success and soon after they made a medium-size plate that became known as the Paw. The basic shape and even the name were copied by others and now everybody and their dog makes rig plates.
Rock Exotica plates are the best. They are milled from oversize material so that all surfaces, even the faces, are machined for flatness, surface defect removal, and precise dimensions. All edges are beautifully rounded with carbide milling cutters for a full, smooth radius unobtainable by tumbling alone.
All plates are anodized and then laser marked and the holes numbered, which can come in quite handy at times.
Uses:
- Rigging plates excel at keeping your rigging organized. They simplify the situation by multiplying anchors and keeping various lines orderly.
- Omni Block pulleys are particularly nice with rig plates because they can swivel as needed and clear other components.
