Everything revolved around the subject of flying for the little scientists at the primary school in Rangsdorf in the research year 2016/2017. The children investigated questions such as “How does a helicopter work?”, “What is aerodynamics?” or “How do aircraft fly?” in playful experiments and worked together to get to the bottom of the scientific phenomena behind them. The highlight of the research year was the big final experiment – the launch of water rockets they had built themselves.

Rolls-Royce and the “Haus der kleinen Forscher” (“House of the little scientists”) foundation – two important players in the field of early science education – have been working together since 2011. The purpose of the partnership is to jointly develop a training programme for teaching staff in kindergartens and primary schools. Since 2013 Rolls-Royce Deutschland has also been running its Haus der kleinen Forscher volunteering or STEM Ambassador programme, which enables employees with scientific and engineering interests together with teachers and other staff in children’s day-care centres and primary schools to enthuse kids for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathemathics.
