Rolls-Royce | Little scientists discover the forest ecosystem
The research year 2016/2017 for the pre-school children of the Noah's Ark children's day-care centre in Usingen, Germany, was defined by the theme of the forest ecosystem. They went on trips into the surrounding area and learned about many of the plants and animals they saw and how to identify them. Together with the teachers at the day-care centre, Rolls-Royce STEM Ambassador Michael Leonhardt came up with a particularly interesting programme to round off the research year: on 20 June 2017 they visited the Großer Feldberg falconry and the wildlife park in Weilheim.
Rolls-Royce and the “Haus der kleinen Forscher” (“House of the little scientists”) foundation – two important players in the field of early science education – have been working together since 2011. The purpose of the partnership is to jointly develop a training programme for teaching staff in kindergartens and primary schools. Since 2013 Rolls-Royce Deutschland has also been running its Haus der kleinen Forscher volunteering or STEM Ambassador programme, which enables employees with scientific and engineering interests together with teachers and other staff in children’s day-care centres and primary schools to enthuse kids for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathemathics.
