Since early January, The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Hampton Roads, Virginia has welcomed a dodgeball league of over 250 LGBTQ athletes, run by Stonewall Sports.
Kroc Senior Officer, Lieutenant Nathan Bridges, along with Kroc Center staff join the athletes on the court, participating weekly in one of fourteen teams who make up the league.
This initiative has made it possible for sustainable bridges to be built between this community and The Salvation Army. To date, three athletes have become full-time members of the Kroc Center. Later in the year, Stonewall Sports plan to launch a new volleyball league hosted at the Kroc Center, making this facility their year-round sports facility.
