"Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" (2010) directed by Edgar Wright is an action adventure romantic comedy which is very nostalgic and dear to my heart. I pretty much like everything about it, it's a super charming movie with great music and memorable scenes.

Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is dating a highschooler while being 22 years old himself which he is embarrassed about. Scott is also in a band called Sex Bob-omb. Scott becomes infatuated with a girl he sees at the library named Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and he's able to weasel his way into her life. They eventually start dating but the catch is that Ramona has seven evil exes which must be defeated in combat by Scott before they can officially be together.

Scott Pilgrim is fun, flashy, and colorful. Every step of the ride is a pleasure and it's filled to the brim with funny jokes and quotable lines. There is a great ensemble cast here, featuring supporting actors such as Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Evans, Brie Larson, Brandon Routh, and more. Knives Chau (Ellen Wong) is my favorite character in the film, she is incredibly funny and memorable. The soundtrack is unique and good enough to listen to casually after the film is over, I particularly like Metric & Brie Larson's "Black Sheep."

Upon rewatch as an adult, Scott is actually not as good of a person as I recalled him being, which hurt the experience a little bit for me. He treats Knives extremely poorly and his general attitude and way of life is alarming to me. I know it's a campy video game movie but I would still have liked a little bit more logic in the action department, as it made no sense how Scott was able to not only hold his own but defeat literally every single super powered nemesis of his, he has never trained for combat a day in his life nor did he know of the existence of magical powers I believe. Now I hate virtue signaling but I do get kind of off put whenever I hear the R word in films where it doesn't belong, and that applies to this one too unfortunately.

Scott Pilgrim is a favorite of mine but it's very satirical, nonsensical, and campy so I wouldn't call it objectively the greatest thing ever. It's a movie that is very easy to come back to and enjoy though, and is a perfect one to put on if you find yourself in a situation where you have no idea what to watch with a significant other.
