1648 - Thirty Years of War Palatinate campaign, Medieval II Total War. The Second Battle of Dirschau was one of the most epic in the campaign. The Polish-Lithuanian army standing before Dirschau consisted mostly of cavalry. As Christian von Anhalt's army arrayed for battle, that cavalry attacked our left wing. Luckily, a forlorn hope under Captain Hermann arrived there as reinforcements and helped check the Polish attack. A subsequent wave of cavalry attacks from the Garrison of Dirschau targetted also our left side as our centre came under pressure from the Polish infantry. The Junkers forming our right wing, finding no opposition, moved up and around the enemy's left side, attacking and killing the Dirschau governor Roman Becke. Having turned back the attack on our centre, our tercios marched forward threatening the enemy musketeers. In response to that threat, the enemy cavalry began gradually to disengage our left to try and stop the attack of our right and centre. With perfect timing, I should say, our Cuirassiers held in reserve then charged the chaotic enemy lines routing the greater part of the enemy cavalry. Our tercios reached the lines of the enemy musketeers and another melee ensued. In this situation the Polish cavalry charged ineffectively among the bodies of men in clouds of smoke and dust as the sun was going down. Eventually the enemy retreated and were cut down by our cavalry. Victory in the East!
