Settlements and Companions (Fallout 4)
To explain: I didn't care much for settlement building in the past because every settlement had something negative about them, mostly the fact that there are constantly spawning corpses. I play on XBox mostly and there are not a lot of settlement mods and unfortunately I cannot apply numerous mods without crashing or messing up a save.
I like locations that have a good view, so locations near water are preferred. Taffington Boathouse and Croup Manor have respawning bodies and Kingsport Lighthouse lacks a roof. I settle for Coastal Cottage.
Then I thought about separating the 16 companions into four faction settlements. The Minutemen would have The Castle, BOS would get Nordhogen, Railroad likes Murkwater, and the Institute could get somewhere that I can make look fancy and high tech. So, this meant finding companions that I believe would fit into each faction best.
The Minutemen, for me, would consist of
1. Preston Garvey
2. Dogmeat (Though he is neutral, he follows me anywhere. The Minutemen are my favorite faction, so he goes there.
3. Piper Wright (She is constantly trying to help people.)
4. Hancock (He is for the people.)
The Railroad
1. Deacon
2. Curie (She was hard to place. I believe that she could be a good fit for The Institute. If we had never found her, The Institute would have eventually discovered the medical technology in the vault and may even have taken Curie for her knowledge. She is also in a synth body, so they would claim her as their property after the fact. The synth body and Curie's personality had me put her in The Railroad category.)
3. Nick Valentine
4. Old Longfellow (He seems to fine with synths and the people of Acadia. Other than possible The Minutemen, I don't think Old Longfellow could go anywhere else.)
The Brotherhood of Steel
1. Paladin Danse
2. Cait (Cait is neutral and only cares about fighting and drugs, unless you finished her companion quest. She feels like a good fit for the BOS.)
3. MacCready (He is a mercenary, as much as I like him and would bring him to The Minutemen, he would not fit in. He loves combat and making caps, so he is better suited for the BOS.)
4. Ada (Her whole storyline is about stopping technology gone wrong. The BOS is the best place for her.)
The Institute
1. X6-88
2. Cogsworth (Finding people to go to an Institute settlement would be difficult. I rationalize Cogsworth by the fact that The Institute is ran by Shaun. Therefore, if we were never woken up, Cogsworth would be left to take order from Shaun.)
3. Strong (He is an evil companion, based on his morality. The Institute created the Super Mutants of The Commonwealth, so Strong seems like a good fit for them.)
