Seven wonders of the ancient world is a four-part history documentary series hosted by Archaeologist, Scholar and Author John Romer, who takes us on a tour to visit the "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World". We'll journey back to Ancient Greece and take a look at the Temple of Artemis, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus and two Statues, the Colossus of Rhodes, a Statue of the Greek sun-god Helios and the Statue of Zeus at Olympia a giant seated figure, made by the Greek sculptor Phidias around 435 BC at the sanctuary of Olympia, Greece, and erected in the Temple of Zeus there. Zeus is the sky and thunder god in ancient Greek religion, who rules as king of the gods of Mount Olympus.

We'll then journey back to Ancient Babylon, which is now modern Iraq, to look at the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, then on to Ancient Egypt to take a look at the Great Pyramid of Giza, the biggest of all the Egyptian pyramids and the tomb of Fourth Dynasty pharaoh Khufu. We'll also check-out the Pharos of Alexandria, a lighthouse built by the Ptolemaic Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, during the reign of Ptolemy II Philadelphus. It has been estimated to have been at least 100 metres high.

This selection of monuments became known as "The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World". There are probably few who could list them right away, are even fewer who know something about each of them or the reasons for which they were labeled as Wonders. Six of those seven were destroyed by forces of nature, or by human hand. Each episode in this series describes one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and we see besides the monuments themselves the people who designed and built them, with the vision to create something wonderful, see each Wonder reconstructed with computer animation, and examine the historical background of these ancient monuments and the civilizations to which they belonged.
