Like Retro City Rampage before it, Shakedown Hawaii is a GTA-esque kinda game. During most of my playthrough I couldn't help but perpetually feel I was on the rails, stuck to a relatively fixed course of action.

In retrospect, the initial part of the game isn't quite challenging, and there's practically no penalty to dying or failing a mission; you just have to restart it. Yet the charm is there - I like the idea of gradually building an empire through hilarious, unscrupulous cost-cutting means. Audiovisual is great and the game loves poking fun at itself rather often.

The big question, though...Epic versus Steam? If you want to support the developers and play it now, Epic by all means. If you, like me, are somewhat leery of Epic's practices of just throwing down money at every single damn game in order to turn it into an exclusive, and also detest their utterly bare-bones store interface and client...wait for Steam. Which is probably going to be in a year.
