There are many great platformers out there. Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, Banjo-Kazooie, Sly Cooper, just to name a few. And while I do agree that they’re great, I think they’ve been hogging the spotlight for far too long. Instead, we’re going to be talking about Shantae, the most criminally underrated platformer of all time… in my opinion.The Shantae series is a 2D platformer series developed by WayForward that currently consists of five games: Shantae, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens. They follow the adventures and endeavours of the Half-Genie Shantae, who often finds herself tangled up in the evil schemes of the nefarious Queen of the Seven Seas: Risky Boots. In this video, I cover everything you need to know about the series, from the gameplay to the story to the visuals to the music, all in an effort to convince you to give this spectacular series a try.
