Captain Adrian Kemper leads the expedition to the Chiron system, but what they find is far different from what they imagined. By the time they arrive, nearly 1,000 years have passed on the distant planet, and civilization has either evolved or vanished entirely. But the real challenge comes when they return to Earth—another 1,500 years later.

What if the cost of first contact was leaving behind a world you’d never recognize upon return?
