The Sikhs were a religious folk in and around Punjab . Whats started as a religious movement grew to an empire , and in the late ninteehth century the Sikhs were the dominant power in Northern India . The arch rivals were the Sikhs were what remained of the once mighty Mughal Empire . When the Mughal Emperor sought the help of its allies , the Afghans rallied to their call . Thus started the struggle between the Afghans and Sikhs .
