Common inputs for fighting games.
If you want quarter circle motions, the half circles are the same thing except you start mid way. There aren't many games where half circles and quarter circles overlap, so you can just get away with doing half circles exclusively.


Again, any grip is viable, you can hold the stick any way you want and get to any level of skill you want. Your grip will never hold back your execution, and your grip will never be your problem.


Finding something that works for you will always be the biggest hurdle since you are still learning how to do the motions. As an experienced fighting game player, I can change grips and still do motions properly because I know the motions and the directions I want to go in. The only thing I would suffer from doing that is feeling like everything is awkward to move in, and maybe lack of muscle strength to move the stick in certain directions.
