SNES TEASER THEATRE 3 Cybernator
This title was originally released in Japan in 1992 as Assault Suits Valken... a much cooler title and more fitting of this awesome game. Cybernator is a side-scrolling platformer that allows players to fire in multiple directions, protect themselves using a shield, dash or fly for a short time, and lock the position of their gun (allowing them to move and shoot in separate directions). Weapon upgrades are also available and hidden throughout the stages, encouraging the player to explore and grow stronger using the weapons of their choice. The gameplay is tight, and incredibly well done. You really feel the weight of the mech as you move, which really lets you feel like an assault suit pilot. Adding to the atmosphere, and definitely worth mentioning, is the exciting soundtrack, gorgeous sprite art, intriguing story and interesting characters. I heard that some people call this the 'poor man's Metal Warriors'... but having played both games a lot, I think I'll always like Cybernator more.
Notably, character designs for this game were provided by well-known hentai artist Satoshi Urushihara. Well, he does non-hentai work too, clearly.
All footage recorded using a Super Nintendo Entertainment System, an official game cartridge, and an Ion Video 2 digital video converter.
