Sonic Adventure CX (DC) - Knuckles story speedrun in 17:57
7Cutscene Cut, or CX, is a code that can be applied to Sonic Adventure via Codebreaker, that allows you to skip cutscenes, sort of. The way it works is it allows you to kill the character with a Start-press during a cutscene, so that the game moves on. This works most of the time, but because it's implemented via an ingame death, it has some side-effects you need to work around. This results in you sometimes getting weird respawn positions after skipping cutscenes, pre-rendered cutscenes can't be skipped cause they're just a video file playing, and cutscenes that are directly tacked onto a boss or level without an extra load in between can't be skipped without being sent back to that boss or stage. In case of a Knuckles stage that's a softlock, because you suddenly find yourself inside the stage with all 3 pieces collected and no way to beat it again, this is why I don't skip the cutscenes immediately after Casino and Sky Deck. In case of a boss, this means you will have to defeat it a second time, which in case of Chaos 2 is actually faster, cause the cutscene following it is significantly longer than the boss.
CX has been an official category for a few months and I thought I'd finally get a run set for it. I wasn't interested in it originally but Tethys asked me about it so I thought I'd give it a shot and I had some fun doing some runs. It actually took me a few attempts to figure out the rules for the cutscene skip, because the first few runs I ruined by skipping the wrong cutscene, and the first run I finished I died on Chaos 6 because of the cutscene death you have to do the boss without rings. Pretty satisfied with this run though but can definitely be improved still
