Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - Demo (Expert Mode)
ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE BOTTOM.
The next game I'll be uploading is none other than the muchly-needed sequel to Sumo Digital's big kart racing hit, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed! This is the demo over Xbox Live Gold, though I will be getting it for the Wii U.
If you haven't heard, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (henceforth called SASRT) changes things up by switching modes of transportation on the fly. Sometimes literally. Racers can switch between land, sea, and air instantly, and all of the original stages in this game contain at least two of those modes of transportation. Not quite as shown off is the fact that in regular races, each lap covers a different path, though the start/finish line, of course, sits where it is.
The demo for this game covers two missions in a new mode called Career, the main mode of this game, where you're given a course and an objective for each mission. I'm sure many others have put up gameplay demos of the missions by now, so I've stepped things up a bit by playing these on Expert difficulty. You see, when you finish both missions on Hard difficulty, Expert is unlocked. (Betcha didn't expect things to be unlocked through the demo!) Are you ready?
Mission #1: Canyon Carnage
Course: Dragon Canyon
Goal: Place 1st in a standard race
So, why is Sonic in a car? Because it transforms into a boat and a plane, and Sonic can neither swim nor fly! While I selected Medium for this, the race is indeed in Expert difficulty, as I receive the S-Rank at the end. I kept this footage as I lingered at the different helicopter shots to see what they chose to showcase this place. Yeah, that's the way I normally play a game. If you don't like it, deal with it.
I have not yet figured out the rocket start in this game. I did figure out the Hot Rod though, which is a variant on the Lightning Cloud in Mario Kart Wii: It increases your speed for an extended period of time, but you lose a bunch of time if you let it stay on you for too long. Rather than pass it on, though, you press the item button again to detonate it and create a rather large blast radius. You do get to see Sonic's All-Star Move though. I'll...figure that out later, but it did what I wanted it to do: Get 1st place.
Mission #2: Golden Gauntlet
Course: Adder's Lair
Goal: Pass through 7 checkpoints
From one fantasy theme to another, I suppose. This is a Boost Challenge, meaning that there is a timer with very little time left on it that ticks down whenever you're NOT in boost. Each time you pass through a checkpoint, however, the timer resets back to a certain amount. You can tell if the timer is about to start counting down again when it goes from green to red. Green means the timer is frozen; when the timer is fully red, it will count down. Any sort of boost works for this challenge: Not just the plentiful fuchsia boost pads around, but boosts from drifting and tricks off jumps are fine too, as well as Transform Boosts (where you do a trick as you convert to a car or boat) and the rocket start, which you get automatically in this mission. Under Expert difficulty, the checkpoints reset your timer to as such:
Beginning: 6 seconds
Checkpoint 1: 5 seconds
Checkpoint 2: 5 seconds
Checkpoint 3: 5 seconds
Checkpoint 4: 4 seconds
Checkpoint 5: 4 seconds
Checkpoint 6: 3 seconds
Checkpoint 7: Clear
You may have noticed that the course only really has three checkpoints, and you're playing two laps and a third to clear this mission. You might also notice the amount of time you get slowly decreases, with each checkpoint providing 1 fewer second in the second lap compared to the first, and the cave run you have to play three times gives you half as much time as when you had to get through it at the beginning. If you're having trouble at that point, besides the obvious path I took, you're given just enough space to do a mini-turbo boost at the very first turn, just enough to hold off on the timer until shortly before the next speed booster. The final portion also requires you hold on to the drift until you reach the very short jump down, then do a Transform Boost when converting to a boat. These boosts will be able to carry you much of the way on a long stretch of road with no boosters.
AN ANNOUNCEMENT
A series of petitions have been made to request DLC for certain characters:

Go on there and let SEGA kow what you want for DLC! It's too bad Neptune (from Hyperdimension Neptunia) didn't make the cut. She was 2 votes short.
