The Hidden Palace community found and published a prototype of "Sonic 3". One of the" Holy Grails " of game history has been discovered. This is a prototype of the development stage when Sonic 3 was not yet separated from Sonic & Knuckles, and it has a lot of differences from the final version, including cut and changed levels, the music in later levels is completely different (including tracks that were later used in the PC port), a different start screen, a different location of enemies and objects, differences in graphics, and so on

It is known that the development of Sonic 3 progressed with great difficulties. Developers were given a strict deadline to make the game by December 1994. First, it was decided to make the new "Sonic" pseudo-three-dimensional, as later done in Sonic 3-D Blast. But it soon became clear that they would not make such a Sonic in time. It was decided to make a more traditional sequel. But it did not have time to implement all the plans. And they started cutting off whole chunks of the game. Some of them later turned into Sonic & Knuckles, some of them were thrown out altogether. Something of this is preserved in this prototype.
