So, for any% runs I've always said that the mech battle is worth going for, but nobody seemed to believe me, and I never did any more runs after timing it the first time. So, here's a comparison video that ends up being skewed in favor of gate.

In the video, gate is 8 seconds faster than mech, which sounds like there's NO WAY mech could be worthwhile. But here's the thing- I spliced together this video at every transition. (obviously) The gate catch movement segments took more attempts than the mech ones, as the movement I used to get there is quite tricky to get right. I gave the gate catch 2 dozen attempts and only kept the instant catch, which rarely happens. I got a sloppy, 0 quick hit mech fight- getting even 1 of these would even out the time significantly. Movement after the mech is also unpracticed- it'd have been better to go around the left instead of over, but not by much.

So in the end, it seems to almost come down to personal preference. But looking at the data...

The mech route not only caps something like 8 seconds faster than gate, but is also (IMO) easier and (without a doubt) less luck reliant. This reaffirms my decision to go for mech in any%, and I look forward to getting a 2:2x segment.
