I decided to make some progress on the Calamusoid related missions I had in my mission log and got as far as getting the pill that provides immunity to the toxic gas in Lahar Swamp. This enabled me to complete the Retrieve Serial Tag step and spawn Subject SH-10: Crusher alongside another player doing the step there. Shout out to soitzen - thanks for the help!

I do of course wish I had recorded the steps leading up to this point along with what I did afterwards but basically you get access to the lab once you finish off more Calamusoids for the Lock and Unlock mission.
