Star Wars Battlefront (Open Beta) - Ch.2 - Walker Assault
I like the concept of Walker Assault, if not necessarily its current execution. Working the story of the Imperial assault of the rebel base on Hoth into the Rush-like mechanics of this mode is actually a pretty clever way of tying the gameplay to the source material.
I simply wish the spawn system weren't such a disappointingly terrible step in the wrong direction, and that it weren't so clearly unbalanced in favor of the Imperial side, whose access to vehicles, like AT-STs and the canons of the lumbering AT-ATs themselves, is unanswered for in the rebels' armaments, which amount to little more than infantry and stationary turrets, along with each side's respective air units.
Compounding this is the difference in each side's victory conditions, as the Imperials need only keep up constant assault against the rebels to keep them from holding the uplink points, yet the rebels require significantly more coordinated teamwork to achieve victory. Walker Assault objectively favors the Imperial side, and while that may stay true to the source material, this isn't a movie; it's a game, and a competitive one at that, in which fair design is a core concern.
