Wow, I can't believe I actually managed to win under these conditions. Anyways, this is Streets of Rage 2, one of the most popular beat'em ups ever released.
This game may be generally seen as the best Streets of Rage game, but in my opinion, it's the worst. This game suffers from collision detection issues, some questionable design choices, sluggish movement and combat, and quite a few irritating bugs. There are times where I will try to hit an enemy and my attack does not hit. I do not like the lack of pits and other hazards compared to Streets of Rage 1 and especially Streets of Rage 3. Skate is the only character who is allowed to run, which makes no sense. I get that he is supposed to be the fast character, but that doesn't explain why the other playable characters can't run too, especially when Streets of Rage 3 came out afterwards and allowed all playable characters to run. But hey, at least the character I picked for this video can use that ability. Team attack moves and grab reversal throws are absent from this game, but were thankfully both added back in Streets of Rage 3. Grab reversal throws would really have helped combat bikers, one of the tougher enemies in the game. Streets of Rage 1 and 3 have their flaws without a doubt, but Streets of Rage 2 to me has the most flawed gameplay of the three Genesis games.
Despite these problems, there are also some good things about this game. One of the most noticeable improvements during the jump from Streets of Rage 1 to 2 is the overall presentation. The game has very good graphics, sound effects, and music. There is more variation among the playable characters and enemies. There are more difficulty levels to pick from too, including the secret Very Easy and Mania difficulties. The playable characters have more moves, some of which can deal some big damage, which Streets of Rage 3 sadly cut back on. The enemy placement is well organized in each level, so the game progresses nicely in that regard.
Streets of Rage 2 is flawed in plenty of areas, but the game manages to shine in others. Still, I personally feel that the good does not outweigh the bad, so I prefer Streets of Rage 1 and especially Streets of Rage 3 to this game. However, if the flaws I mentioned were fixed, it would be a much more enjoyable game.
