I was inspired by the latest @Spacegamejunkie stream where he played this game (btw check out his channel he plays plenty of retro titles). I played this as a kid, but never extensively, I don't remember if I even completed any of the campaings.
Subwar 2050 was delevoped by Particle Systems and released by Microprose in 1993. In 1994 Amiga / Amiga CD32 ports were released. Expansion for DOS version appropriately titled "The Plot Deepens" was released that same year as well. It added 3 more campaigns, new subs and weapons. The final version released on CD-ROM also in 1994, combined the base game and expansion .
I will show off first 2 missions from the first campaign (I completed training beforehand). Gameplay is pretty interesting as the futuristic sub sim premise makes this game play like the space combat sim with additional aspect of stealth which is affected by your speed, usage of active sonar and position regarding to thermal layers. It gets really tactical at times.
Overall the game gives pretty chill vibe, I like its music alot, especially played through Roland MT-32. It's pretty hard though. Already 2nd mission kicked my ass. Better git gud.
