Much like my Ludwig Piece, I learned about this song from a video 8 Bit Music Theory made about it (https://youtu.be/vsQyqgO_XIQ), and I wanted to make my own version. This is one of the most ambitious covers I’ve ever made, mostly with the mixing. This song is immediately striking just on virtue of being in 7/8 time, with a short break of 6/8 in the middle. Meters like that only feel natural through repetition, and there is a constant pulse of 2, 2, 3 keeping everything grounded. The chords follow the tried-and-true roadmap of being in a minor key, but using mostly major chords, with the raised 6th of the Dorian mode sprinkled throughout the melody and harmony to add some brightness. That’s basically the formula for epic music in movies and video games. I have never played Mass Effect, but I have heard nothing but good things about those games. I never knew the songs were this good. I love how this cover turned out.
