What is Super Mario World?
First, let's start off with what Super Mario World is/was:
Mario and his dinosaur companion, Yoshi, are looking for the dinosaur eggs Bowser has stolen and placed in seven castles. Many secret exits aid Mario in finding his way to Bowser's castle, completing 74 areas and finding all 96 exits. With multiple layers of 3-D scrolling landscapes, find items including, a feather that gives Mario a cape allowing him to fly. and a flower so he can shoot fireballs.
The game centers on the quest of Mario and Luigi to save the Dinosaur Land from Bowser, the series antagonist. The two brothers must travel across seven worlds to restore order to Dinosaur Land. It built on the gameplay of previous Mario games by introducing new powerups that augment character abilities, and established conventions that were carried over to future games in the series
So what exactly are Mario ROM Hacks?
Mario ROM Hacks come from a very dedicated community that builds upon what made the original Super Mario World so great. Hacks range from slightly altered levels of the original game to MASSIVE overhauls in what many could be argued completely new games. Custom bosses, enemies, soundtracks, and even main characters can make hacks amazing to play. Unfortunately, some have none of these, poorly done variations, and terrible level design. Which one will I get? Guess we'll just have to see.
