Tat's an interesting collection! - The Tattoo Convention
28It is now one of the biggest tattoo events in Europe. The London Tattoo Convention is held at Tobacco Dock and it welcomed over thirty thousand body art enthusiasts.
The constant high-pitched buzz of tattoo needles that filled the air was an opportunity to mingle with fellow tattoo fans. Some of the world’s top artists had flown in for the occasion giving British tattoo fans a plethora of styles and attitudes to choose from. The Japanese and Chicano (Mexican-American) styles seemed to have the longest queues.
Forget "tramp stamps" or small butterflies tucked away discreetly on a barely visible part of the body. At this convention, big and bold was definitely in. The festival celebrates all things alternative. The convention was billed as a celebration of an "alternative lifestyle". However, it still a bit of a leap from that drunken and well-hidden tattoo acquired as a student to a wrist-to-shoulder job - the "sleeve".
This year, however, the event is one of a slew of many that has been cancelled amid the crisis.
