11The quality of the file was much much better but for some reason within the upload process the quality has severely degraded. Gonna have to look into it.
The Canon Vixia's and many other camera devices use the AVCHD video codec. In my experience it isn't the best file type to work with while editing so I decided to give it a try in the Linux video editor KdenLive. Didn't really work well until I used the transcode option then it turned out fine.
