Oh no, a wolf! Let's detour...

This episode, I'll be exploring a bit towards... the west? I think it is. To the left of the tracks ta least. Let's see if I die horribly on the porch again.

Also? This episode here, this little bit, took me 7 hours of editing. Which part, you say? Those three Steam overlays that I had to censor out for privacy reasons.

At first, I tried out OpenShot, which worked well enough, but doesn't only need you to use a 3rd party website to calculate the time stamps to frame counts when you want to extract a piece of the whole project (because surprise, you can't even just move parts to the start when you temporarily crop out before it, you have to manually re-position all of them, or cut the blackness from the start with another tool).

No, on top of that, the output video doesn't have any sound, even though I didn't even touch the audio codec settings. So, default codec? It simply doesn't write anything into the file.

I know OpenShot is open source and some people's hobby project, but in all seriousness? That codec thing may be a bug somewhere, sure, but you can't take snapshots out of the running project anymore? And even though the program allows you to encode from a certain time stamp to another, you have to manually calculate those, instead of using jump markers that the program actually has in it?

On top of all that, if I don't change the actual video with effects and such, why not allow just cropping when I cut a project.

I thankfully got AviDemux to work with MP4 output (which frankly, is just a little option right there on the main screen), and that cut my - spoilers - 2 hour project of that day into 4 pieces in just under five minutes. Total. For all 4 cut-jobs together. All you need to consider there is to cut on an I frame, not a P or B frame.

For the actual editing in this part of the recording, I had to use Lightworks, an impressive tool that, in it's free form, is just a bit limited on the output, as in, it allows no fiddling with the bit rates, but its 'youtube' setting is working well enough.

Lightworks isn't free of issues either. For some reason, the program ignores transparency in PNG files, so I had to google and research how to force it to accept my overlay as I intended, and, frankly, how OpenShot did without any issues. Took another half hour of forum combing and menu fiddling or so, then I figured it out. Not a necessary learning curve as it is pretty unintuitive, if you ask me, but I can live with it.

Anyway! I hope you enjoy the thrill of this and the coming episode(s), just as I had it when playing. Until next time~
