The EU Artificial Intelligence Act aims to foster AI innovation while controlling it with regulations. Although that balance could eventually be achieved in the long run, relegating cybersecurity to a secondary role or an ‘afterthought’ will create a security gap that could create more problems than expected. Ethics and security are two sides of the same AI coin. One cannot exist without the other. This chapter contends that Euro- pean measures and regulations currently lack detailed guidance for effective methods to handle malicious or accidental cyber activities and guard against the potential impact that compromised AI can have on society.
