The PC Engine Files No. 68! Adventure Island (Isn't What You Think)
8After playing New Adventure Island on The PC Engine Files last week, I thought it would be fun to go back and play the OLD original Adventure Island, the game that eventually broke into two different series -- one the Wonder Boy series of games with RPG elements, and one that continued with Master Higgins collecting fruit and platforming from left to right. I was expecting the latter based on the title... but it turns out this is the Japanese region version of Dragon's Curse, which was the TurboGrafx-16 conversion of Wonder Boy III on SMS! Aside from the name and some other presumably minor language differences, Dragon's Curse and Adventure Island are the same, so let's all thank Hudson Soft for making the history of these two franchises MORE and not less confusing.
