The Rest of Us Cast and Director Aisling Chin-Yee Interview | TIFF 2019
One of the many films to world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was Aisling Chin-Yee's directorial debut, The Rest of Us. The film is about a combative teenage daughter (Sophie Nélisse) and her mother (Heather Graham) who invites her ex-husband's wife and daughter (Jodi Balfour and Abigail Pniowsky) to live with them after the husband dies and they’ve got nowhere to go. As the film progresses, a number of secrets come to light and each person’s life is impacted by these new relationships.
Shortly after seeing the film I got to talk with Aisling Chin-Yee, Heather Graham, Jodi Balfour, Sophie Nélisse and Abigail Pniowsky at the Collider studio at TIFF. They talked about the realistic dialogue, not having to deliver exposition dumps, what the film is about, the quick edits, and premiering at TIFF.
