The RISE of Nostalgia SLOP and the 'Zombie-fication' of Content
1,593Reboots, sequels and remakes of old movies have always been a thing. But we are entering a new stage of art - one where things that were recently popular and still have cultural relevance are being remade by the same corporations who created the originals.
HBO - owned by Warner Bros - recently showed off the first cast photos of their upcoming Harry Potter TV show, which is going to tell the story of the books season by season. However, people noticed that not only do the actors resemble the characters from the books, they look exactly like the portrayal of them in the recent movies that ended in 2011. Instead of a new take on the source material, the show is more like a remake of the movies - and this is by design.
Similarly, Disney have been remaking their own movies in 'live action', usually casting Hollywood a listers who resemble the original voice actors in classics like The Jungle Book or the Lion King. Their most recent adaptation is of a movie that came out in 2002, and not only is it pretty much the same story, the voice actor of Stitch is exactly the same. Its just the same thing - but again.
We are entering now the era of Zombie content. Where old and very recent movies and shows a like are being revived from the dead and remade exactly the same as they were - apart from they are worse. It shows more than ever big corps are prioritising easy profits over any risk.
