13The arcade era was a magical time. Many many people have awesome memories. The graphics were better. The sounds captivated us. And just walking into an arcade gave us goosebumps. There were usually so many games to choose from, if you had the quarters of course. Among those games were plenty of what we call now shoot 'em ups or "shmups" for short.
Vertically oriented shoot 'em ups, in particular, were some of the most popular games of the time. I remember firsthand just popping in quarters just to fly and shoot up a few aliens or bad guys for a few minutes. It was short but fun! It was definitely an experience. And now I get to showcase some of those games for you.
