The Dark History of The Last Guardian's development tells us of the struggles Team Ico had in making such a visually stunning work of art. The biggest challenge of this process was switching from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4. This necessitated some additional changes to the engine and code that created some serious road blocks. A game that was supposed to come out in 2011 is barely making it in time for a 2016.

Following up games like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus would be no small feat for anybody, but the relationship between Team Ico and Sony definitely threw a wrench into their plans. Sony wanted The Last Guardian to release on the PS4, but Team Ico wanted it to remain on the PS3. Eventually, Sony won and the game nearly vanished into obscurity as a result. After leaving Sony to create his own game company called GENdesign, Ueda has finally finished it! After several delays, it's finally here.
