Here we have Orjan Larsen, aka @TheViperAOE, arguably the best player of Age of Empires 2 ever, try his hand at a map in the Age of Empires 1 Definitive Edition. Age of Empires 1 allows for much less micro than AOE 2, and there are also differences in balance, units, game mechanics, etc. Let's see how TheViper (playing Macedonian) survives a dreaded Tool Age Rush. The Tool Rush is the most common strategy (and probably the longest used strategy) in the AOE franchise. It started because the Shang civilization in AOE was too overpowered in early game, so players would select Shang and Tool rush each other. It took a long time before players figured out strategies to counter the Shang Tool Rush. Now, more than two decades later, we revisit the Tool Rush especially as AOE 2 players try AOE 1.
