TheZeroEquals Gaming - The Zero Hour Play! - The Order: 1886
In The Order: 1886 we find, what feels like solid building blocks for a franchise that could balance the story of dark and monstrous intrigue with a fragile balance of political betrayal and subterfuge. The action and narrative balance is somewhat tilted initially towards exposition, but as the game progresses, the balance measures up to deliver wothy pacing and even a bit of variety in the game play.
The first hour sets the stage and introduces us to some core mechanics while carefully intorducing a few of the key threats and allies in the game. Roughly running at about eight (8) hours, the game's story and world at times feels like a proof of concept rather than a fully explored vehicle.
That said, it's a shame that although all the elements seem to be there for a possible franchise sequel and/or reboot, sadly, we may not know a sequel any time soon. But at least we'll always have 1886, right?
