I'm a big fan of keeping players on their toes through flavor rolls, where the dice determine the outcome of small events, such as what happens when there is a critical failure, or just HOW badly was that persuasuan fail?
It's also a great tool when you might not have a completely thought-out plan and your roleplaying faculties might be failing you...let the dice determine where the action will take you!
