TNT Evilution:Hold Your Head Up
..And we are back, It's late..I know, This third part wore me out quite a bit so the final part will be somewhat late either in November or on new year's day 2022, It really depends because I got extremely overworked on Part 3.
Part 3 opens up with a ambushes in "Deepest Reaches", This map is dark, bare and very drab but also very hard, The map has some pretty mean monster closets, not enough health and some frustrating segments such as the wood room, I know it's a figure on the "Doom Engine" but having to platform while being blocked either below or above gets tedious.
"Processing Area" will chew you up if RNG is not on your side, Like it did me, Processing Area reminds me a lot of Plutonia Experiment with it's open windows and long hallways that enemies can attack from, The hidden blursphere that is in what looks like a "entry door" is something I was unaware of back in the day and learned of only recently, ran like hell for the exit as my ammo was low.
"Mill" is certainly more...exhausting and downright brutal then most of TNT Evilution's levels up to this point but this along with the next 3 raise the pressure greatly, Mill is a ammo drought that also is very big, Mill has a lot of open areas which isn't too bad but things get downright evil in the lava room when you need to reach the key, The room LOCKS you in with a arch-vile which killed me a lot so I decided to not fire and save myself a headache.
"Shipping/Respawning", is a massive level almost the size of Metal from the 2nd part of the first episode but with better detail and some impressive set pieces, A Office complex, a massive warehouse and working(!) assembly line, and even a outdoor loading bay with a truck made from textures, Shipping/Respawning is a step curve though, The map is crawling with hitscanners, pinky demons and much more mean monsters, the gotcha moment at the red key door always gets me and I think I got lucky with what little health I had.
...And then we begin, "Central Processing", Now this map is..one I hate with a passion but on the other hand I enjoy it a lot, unlike E1M6 of Doom, "Central Processing" here is a large techbase and lab with some very mean traps, tricks and teleport puzzles, The map is unrelentling with it's hitscanners, and ammo drought, Final part is tiring and I kept forgetting where the exit teleporter was. It's track by Tom Mustaine named "Horizon" is one of the most downplayed and threatening sounding tracks in Commercial Doom wads and one of my personal favorites.
Closing part 3 is the final level of Episode 2 and the most infuriating level yet:"Administration Center", I really don't like this one at all, The start to TNT Evilution's final episode is a frustrating mess that does not look like a office building or any kind of Administration center at all, Cages holding Imps and Chaingunners, mean mean traps, fake exits and the outside is downright dumb, a large courtyard with teleporting Imps, A cyberdemon and a odd cube you use to exit..I don't get it.
Final part will cover "Habitat", "Lunar Mining Project", "Quarry", "Baron's Den", "Ballistyx", "Mount Pain", "Heck", "River Styx", and the Boss Map, "Last Call", These maps are mixed by their detail and ruthlessness with Last Call I am NOT looking forwards to, due to the torch puzzle you need to complete.
