The Matrix is a science fiction action media franchise created by The Wachowski Brothers, about heroes who fight a desperate war against machine overlords that have enslaved humanity in an extremely sophisticated virtual reality system. The 1st film, The Matrix, is a 1999 science fiction action film written and directed by The Wachowski Brothers and starring Keanu Reeves (Neo), Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus), Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith), and Joe Pantoliano (Cypher). Spoiler Alert: It depicts a dystopian future in which reality, as perceived by most humans, is actually a simulated reality called "the Matrix", created by sentient machines to subdue the human population, while their bodies' heat and electrical activity are used as an energy source.
