#TopGun #Maverick
Since the Top Gun sequel (Maverick) finally comes out this year, I finally sat down and watched Top Gun for the first time! The movie has aged for better than I imagined it would on almost every level. The cinematography is beautiful, the music is great (Danger Zone being a favorite) and Tom Cruise/Val Kilmer are in their prime. So why didn't I think much of Top Gun overall? Well, honestly, the script is pretty bad. There is a lack of focus on a central theme and a love story is shoved down our throats instead of keeping us engaged with the pilots and the grueling program. It's a shame too because there is so much that works here but the side plot really takes over during the middle of the movie and derails everything. I still have high hopes from Maverick but Top Gun definitely disappointed me.
