Boss: I can't explain it. I just don't understand.
The Hidden Backside or Hidden Mode is a second, more difficult version Mystical Power Plant with a few key differences between the front side and the back.
Most importantly, every midboss and boss now only uses one spell card, which are in most cases decidedly less Touhou-like and more closely resemble the rotating pattern format found in CAVE shooters. Their difficulty varies wildly across the game and does not necessarily reflect the stage order.
The stages themselves are also subject to some changes: The enemies in the first half up to the midboss now leave behind revenge bullets when killed, which leads to the stages becoming much denser and the player needing to be more mindful in how they tackle particular setups. These revenge bullets are however not present in the second half of stages.
Instead, while in the frontside stages, the second half of each stage was a more difficult interpretation of the first half, in the backside, the second half always features its own new and unique challenges.
Finally, in terms of mechanics, Hidden Mode adds one more slot on your skill tree to fill out, which increases your Attack Power, and maxing out your skill tree now gives two bomb pieces instead of just one - which you will sorely need.

Mystical Power Plant is the second Touhou fan game in the series created by a developer called ido. The main gameplay mechanic of this game is based around collecting leaf items to fill the skill tree gauge in the bottom left corner, which causes the player to 'level up' and gain various benefits as the game proceeds, which differ depending on the team you are using.
For Reimu and Utsuho these are:
- Avoidance - Makes your hitbox smaller.
- Reflexes - Increases your deathbomb window.
- Spirit Recovery - Increases the Invulnerability after using a bomb or dying.
When the skill tree gauge is maxed out, all skills will be lost and the player is awarded with a life and bomb piece, restarting the process. Worth noting is, that in the brief time where you do not have any skills, you will not be able to use the Point of Collection, which can be tricky.
