Let's be honest, I started liking Flandre and the Scarlet Devil Mansion crew exactly 8 years ago, the time I started playing Touhou. Yeah, I know it's the good old "newbies love SDM cast" cliche, but to be frank (no pun intended), it's hard to get to something else when there are literally 9000 arrangement albums based on EoSD. This is also the reason I would have loved E9 story if not for the fact that there would be the whole cast of SDM UFes in the future, including Sakuya the Vampire Hunter, according to datamined files.

The "Sakuya is secretly a vampire hunter" cliche isn't something new, but it is well portrayed in this story. A Sakuya with an undying zeal against the "forces of darkness", going as far as to abandon her own humanity to destroy the army of devils... Was it in E9 again? I will need to read the storyline later, but that is what I remember and interpret from it. But we also see a different aspect of the SDM crew here; not as the evil force that will destroy or rule over the world, but the refugee from a forsaken land, yearning for a place called home. Ironically, they are like Sakuya the Vampire Hunter, going as far to reject their own origin as the devil so that one day the world they are residing in will finally accept them. Even at the heist of their battle, when the Main Character propose to let Remilia drink human blood, the Little Mistress outright refused the offer, staying true to her vow despite the withdrawal symptoms that have been ravaging her frail body ever since.

Sakuya has spent aeons of time to battle the devils, to the point that she became one herself. Flandre has spent eternities to seek for a life of humans, to the point that she became one herself.

"Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." - Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, ironically suits this well enough to guarantee a place here.
